Set up in 1990 this office was one of the first Home Improvement Agencies to be set up in the North East region. The staff work closely in conjunction with Health, Social Services and voluntary sector partner agencies to receive referrals and provide service to clients. The office also receives work requests directly from the public. In addition to organising and managing works with contractors on behalf of clients, Care and Repair Derwentside offers handyperson services. The first was established 1996 in partnership with Social Services and helps with the installation of grab rails and handrails as well as undertaking small repair and maintenance jobs. The second, established in 2004, provides a more intensive service to the residents in the 'Stanley Green Corridor’ villages of Southmoor, Craghead and South Stanley by identifying and resolving home safety issues as well as addressing repairs and maintenance needs.
